This morning, I woke up at 6am before the baby is awake and got some blogging done while listening to Gary Chaw (inspired by yesterday’s visit to his restaurant). Most days I’ve been here, I’ve been waking up at 5am and just listening to podcasts and catching up on social media until baby woke up. It felt so nice to just get out of bed and get stuff done.
We had a late morning, so we went for a late breakfast at Seng Hing Cafe, which was super close to Le Meridien (maybe 100m away), We tried their laksa (both seafood and chicken options) and kon lo mee (dry noodles with meat) here. The laksa was super spicy so I had initially thought that the sauce on the side was to add more spice. Instead, I realized that it added more depth to the flavours and it had a more well-rounded taste after that. I regretted not adding that from the beginning. I was reminded by Aaron that side sauces/pastes/dips are not optional here.

After breakfast, we went to Suria Sabah Mall to do some shopping as there was a holiday sale that was ending today. (Spoiler alert: They lied to us, this sale continued even after today…) We were planning to go to the Metrojaya (a large department store) there but it was closed due to renovations. We decided to walk around the mall instead. The service here is so personalized and the staff are very helpful. We also received a lot of free items and vouchers to use. We were getting hungry after all the shopping. We picked up some chicken rice and crepe cake before heading back to the Airbnb.
The chicken rice was from 5 Stars Hainanese Chicken. The chicken pieces were very meaty and the rice was very flavourful. The soup had a hint of coconut for some reason. The pandan crepe cake was quite delicious but the uji matcha one was not my favourite.

After this late lunch/early dinner, we headed to Aaron’s grandfather’s to bring him food and spend some time with him. He even played some gin rummy after dinner. Everyone was grateful he is healthy and is able to enjoy his favourite game.
