Black Dog Bistro

We met up with some friends recently in Manotick for some dinner at the Black Dog Bistro. It was our first time here but it’s a favourite of our friends who live near the area.

Location/Ambience

Black Dog Bistro is located in the cute town of Manotick. There was limited parking in their dedicated lot but we were able to find nearby street parking. It is a very popular restaurant in the area. Our friends made sure to make reservations on this busy Friday evening. An expansion was built to the restaurant and it was very nice with high ceilings. We were seated in this area, right in front of the fireplace. It was very hygge! I love it!

Drinks

They have a wine and beer menu. We decided to split a bottle of Cab Sauv which is usually a solid choice.

Food

We were given some bread and nicely softened butter to start. We also shared some calamari which was pretty good. It was nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside paired with a nice dip.

For mains, Aaron and I shared the prime rib and truffle pasta. The prime rib was good, paired nicely with horseradish. I had it with a side of sweet potato fries which came with their special house sauce. The flaky croissant-like bun was amazing. I can definitely eat more of that. The truffle pasta was “absolutely decadent” as it was described on their menu. The spaghetti was served with truffle butter sauce, a poached egg and shaved Parmesan cheese. It was a lovely vegetarian pasta, which I actually enjoyed more than the prime rib dish.

We were pretty full by the end of our meal but couldn’t say no to the tempting dessert menu. Aaron and I shared the strawberry butter cake. On the menu, this dish was supposed to have peaches but this was missing tonight. Apparently there was also cream cheese as an ingredient but I couldn’t really taste it. Regardless, the cake was really good with vanilla ice-cream and whipped cream on the side. I ended the meal with a cappuccino which was served with a light coconut macaroon. It was a delightful way to end the evening.

Service

The service was really good. The servers were friendly and we did not have to wait too long for our food despite how busy they were this evening.

Overall

This cute bistro is a little out of the way for most, but it’s worth checking out if you are in the area or want to try out new restaurant. Don’t forget to make reservations as they can get busy!
