As mentioned in one of my Montreal posts on my travel blog: if you are looking for Montreal-style bagels in Ottawa, Kettleman’s is definitely the place to check out. It is actually quite comparable to the bagels I’ve had in Montreal. In addition to their newly renovated Glebe location, they now have a location at College Square as well as Trainyards. Don’t forget the Glebe location is 24 hours, so you really don’t have an excuse not to try them out.
My favourite picks here are the breakfast sandwich (AKA “Mr. Delicious” as dubbed by one of my friends) – with bacon, egg and cheddar cheese, as well as the Kettleman’s special (smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomato, and red onion with garlic olives and capers (optional)). The sandwiches are served on your choice of bagel. I usually pick the all-dressed bagel since I love a burst of flavours. If you just want something quick and simple or for a large group to-go, you can order bagels by singles, half-dozens or dozens. There are also all sorts of cream cheese you can choose to top your bagels. While you wait for your sandwiches, feel free to admire how the workers neatly roll the bagels with such ease and bake it in their large wood-burning oven with long wooden boards. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast, lunch, dinner or a midnight snack, Kettleman’s is there to meet all of your bagel cravings!
