Chocolate Banana Espresso Smoothie Recipe

Since my previous review on the Goodfood Breakfast Smoothies, I’ve been making my own version of their delicious “Cold Brew Crisp”. This has been my go-to breakfast smoothie for a while so I thought that I would share my recipe. It’s super simple to make and is the perfect balance of sweetness from the banana and protein powder, bitterness from cacao nibs and espresso and creaminess from the milk and almond butter! It’s also jammed full of fibre, healthy fats and protein.

Ingredients

1 cup of ice
1/2 frozen banana
1 shot of espresso (I use the Nespresso Decaffeinato Intenso Coffee Capsule – so easy to make with a push of a button! I enjoy the taste of the coffee without the need for a load of caffeine.)
2 tablespoons ground and roasted flax seed
1 tablespoon hemp hearts
1/2 tablespoon almond butter (or any nut butter of your choice)
1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I am usually not a protein powder fan but I actually like the Vega Chocolate Protein and Greens Powder)
1 tablespoon cacao nibs
1 cup milk of your choice (I usually use almond milk or 2% milk depending on what is in my fridge)

Instructions

Add all ingredients to blender and blend! I use the Magic Bullet Nutribullet because it is easy to use and clean. I also start with the ice and frozen banana and then add the espresso as I’m not sure the Nutribullet cups can withstand the heat.

That’s all folks. Happy blending!
