If you’ve ever been to Ottawa, you would have noticed the abundance of Shawarma shops. There seems to be so many options, so which is the best? The consensus amongst my friends and I is that Shawarma Palace is the one to go to. There are a few locations and we’ve tried the Bank (South Keys), Carling and Rideau locations and they have all been reliably good.
Shawarma is a very versatile dish. You can make it how you want it. If you want low carbs, just skip the rice, potatoes and pita. If you don’t like certain vegetables, don’t get it. If you are in love with their garlic sauce, get an extra order on the side. If you can’t choose between beef or chicken, just get the mixed platter. If you want extra protein, can a side order of meat. If the platter is too big, share it with a buddy or get a sandwich instead. If you’re hosting a party, you can get party trays to go. For dining options, you can eat in their simple cafeteria style restaurant or you can order out or get delivery as well.
Our go-to order is the chicken shawarma platter with extra garlic sauce on the side to share between the two of us. It’s easy and flexible. We can eat whatever we want from the platter and can make our own sandwiches using the pita they give on the side. The extra garlic sauce is highly recommended as it goes well with not only the potatoes but the chicken, the rice, the pita and basically on everything. Just don’t get a “large” side order of garlic sauce though or else you’ll end up having a year’s worth of garlic sauce to finish off.
So if you’re in Ottawa, don’t forget to check out Shawarma Palace. You won’t regret it!
