Woke up feeling really unwell and unsure whether I can endure another day of adventure. I managed to get myself and Aaron up to grab some breakfast at the Chinese restaurant in the hotel. Their service was amazing but it was not the authentic deliciousness we were looking for. We then boarded the shuttle bus to KLCC (KL City Centre) – home to the famous twin towers, another huge shopping mall and the aquarium. There we did some shopping, had some rotiboy (bun with coffee encrusted on top and a slab of butter in between), asam laska (a less delicious version of laska vs the curry laska I’m used to), nasi lemak (not as good as the one we had at the wedding), and a mango dessert (at my fave Hui Lau Shan – please refer to HK/China trip blog). I’m wasn’t sure if I was disappointed by the food because I was sick or if it truly wasn’t good.
Next stop was the aquarium as requested by Aaron. His love for wildlife is evident as soon as he spots any animal. He becomes mesmerized by the behaviour and appearance of all the different fishes, other sea creatures and non-sea animals e.g tarantulas (not sure why they were cohabiting in an aquarium).
We then decided to take the passenger-way back which is a long, air conditioned walkway built above the city from one mall to another spanning many many blocks. I can’t imagine how one would come up with this idea but I have that person to thank because we got back to our hotel in no time. With all the walking, I decided to relax in a bath while Aaron decided to work out. We then rested in the lounge, while enjoying some drinks and small snacks whole waiting for my poor friend to finish work so we can go out for dinner. Like my HK trip I realized the incredible work ethic of people in Asia where working till 3am everyday is the norm. I cannot imagine. I admire those able to do that.
We headed to Lot 10 Hu Tong which was a food court of deliciousness just a few blocks away from the hotel. The owner of this food court decided to gather amazing food choices to create this culinary heaven. We chose a mishmash of noodles, pancakes, BBQ meat and began our feast. We ended our meal with some shaved ice, which is not the fruits and syrup on ice that I’m used to but actual flavoured ice so every bite had an explosion of flavours. This meal made me realize that it was not because I was sick that I couldn’t appreciate food previously, it was because I didn’t go to the right places. After we satisfied our tummy, we decided to check out the night life of KL. We wanted to go to Sky Bar at the top of Trader’s Hotel, which was a pool by day and bar by night. Interesting concept but I can imagine many intoxicated people falling in the pool at night. There apparently was a private function there so we were not able to get a seat. We did see the nice view of the city and the KLCC park while we were there. Our friendly locals decided bring us for a walk along the sleazy part of town, which was definitely an interesting sight. We ended the night just having some drinks and some more catching up.
