Europe Day 30: Lisbon – Home

Last travelling day! Quite uneventful. After trying again and again to ask about the nonexistent shuttle advertised by the hotel, which no one seems to know about, we gave up and decided to take the taxi to the airport. At the airport, we had to pass by many, many gates before reaching our boarding gate. On the plane we watched 2 great movies – King’s speech and Unknown. I didn’t think I would enjoy King Speech so much, until I gave it a chance. Soon after, we were back in Canada!

Trip Summary: (following the same format as my previous travel blog)

Culture: This is one of my favourite parts of the trip as it was very interesting to learn about and experience the different cultures. This cannot be easily described unless you are actually there. Throughout the trip, we constantly compared the different cultures between the countries we visited and kept asking ourselves which one we fit in most with.

Weather: HOT. It’s not humid though, so it was nice. We had some break from the heat in air-conditioned public transportations and in some locations (Paris, Deauville, Porto, Salema etc.)

Language: We definitely had the greatest difficulty in Spain, where most people did not speak English. With some practice though, we were able to communicate with the locals without needing to speak the same language.

My Top Food Picks (in no particular order):
1. Fried fish in Seville
2. Fried sardines in the market in Porto
3. Calamari in Spain
4. Fideua in Seville
5. Grilled prawns in Madrid
6. Sangria first night in Barcelona

Most amazing sights:
1. Sagrada Famillia
2. Douro Valley
3. Eiffel Tower

Firsts:
1. First time in Europe
2. First time having to speak Italian, Spanish and Portugese.
3. First time eating dinner past 11pm.
